On October 25-27, 2016, the premier annual forum for the national electric power industry POWER-GEN Russia was held in Moscow. The table of events customarily included the conference and exhibition.
The forum attracted thousands of electric power market professionals from all over the world. POWER-GEN Russia provided a unique platform for all its attendees and exhibitors alike for networking with Russian and international players in the power sector enabling them to be at the forefront of the latest technological developments and know-how. Throughout the sessions, a number of technical issues were discussed, including such topical subjects as the future of the Russian electric power generating industry, energy efficiency, new model of heat market, and financing of the projects in the field of distributed generation.
Maksim Skarednov, Chief Expert of the Construction Department, COTES, made a presentation at the session "Optimization of Plant Performance". His presentation "Cutting-Edge Efficient Vibration Protection for Power Plant Turbine Generator Foundations" spotlighted the issue which is really challenging for many power plants and showed approaches to its solution. Vibration reduces cost effectiveness of turbines and escalates the risk of severe damages. Vibration isolators add flexibility to the decision-making process related to the foundation design and make it possible to install more cost-effective foundations and reduce future operating expenses. International experience in application of vibration isolated foundations for high-capacity turbounits proves their effectiveness and usability during refurbishment and construction of new power generating facilities. As an example of effective application of vibration isolation in Russia, Maksim Skarednov mentioned vibration isolated foundations installed by COTES in partnership with GERB at a 440 MW combined-cycle cogeneration plant No.5 in Ufa in 2015.
